Good content alone is rarely sufficient to be a good teacher. One has to communicate in ways that capture attention, motivate and inspire, which means making your message relevant to the times, using stories of real people, appealing to the best in people, exemplifying solid character in everything you do as a teacher.

FEE President Lawrence W. Reed sat down with Free Market Central for an interview about his newest book.

Liberty is what makes life worth living. You can’t be the unique person you are if you’re coerced into living a life prescribed for you by others with political power. 

“I can’t imagine life without liberty, so I am happy to stand up for it. I also can say that I genuinely enjoy working for liberty; I love the work because I love the message and all that it means for humanity.”

What concerns me most is an education system that devalues liberty itself. I don’t think it’s “higher” education if it teaches discredited notions that undermine liberty, free markets and personal responsibility. 

Even the worst of situations can be turned around with the right policies.

Austrian economics has a long ways to go before it can be considered the predominant school of thought within economics but it is making great strides. 

“When people make sweeping generalizations against a group of people because of their color, we call it racism. When the Pikettys of the world do the same thing against a group of people because of their bank accounts, it’s supposed to be OK?”
